CASTING IS UP!!!

CASTING AND REHEARSAL SCHEDULE!

above is the link to casting for the concert and the finalized schedule of rehearsals (except for Ryan Badilla's TBA!) Please understand that Guin and I tried our best to put everyone in the dances they wanted and in how many they wanted. We ran across problems because there are 164 of you and we obviously couldn't put everyone in every dance they wanted! We tried to give priority to dancers who are graduating, but no one was put in more than 4 dances, even if they asked for more...there's just not enough room! If you have any serious problems with the dances you were placed in I can try to work something out, otherwise this casting is EXTREMELY tight. Over 17 hours were spent going through every one of your sheets and trying to accommodate everyone! You can speak with individual choreographers if you would like to be added or subtracted from a dance. I will only make additions to the cast if I hear from the choreographer.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I will be posting, in a day or so, a contact list of all dancers/choreographers for the show. I will also be posting a problem child list! There are some of you who haven't given me your liability forms or you filled them out incorrectly! Once I send that out, I will set a deadline and won't hesitate to cut dancers who do not get their forms in. Under Cal Poly rules, I can not allow you to dance in the studio/attend rehearsals unless I have your liability forms!

ANOTHER IMPORTANT NOTE: Because there are SO many of you, (seriously there were only about 100 last year!) I would really like to stress the importance of attendance and commitment to the show. I will be telling choreographers that they have my permission to cut any dancers that skip out on practice or don't seem to be taking the dancing seriously. Casting the show took a serious amount of time and if you are in a dance, I guarantee that you're taking up a spot that someone else wanted. So, PLEASE appreciate your time in the dances you get to be in and think of yourself as part of a team! You want your dances to look great, and so do I!

I have a lot of faith in all the choreographers to do an amazing job and I can't wait to see everyone's progress at the first showing in April!

We'll be in touch! :-)

CATCH UP AND LOOK AHEAD, SPRING DANCE CONCERT 2010!

CATCH UP IF YOU MISSED THE 1st MEETING

If you're still thinking about doing the Spring Dance Concert, but missed the meeting, let me fill you in!

The following forms need to be filled out and returned to me THIS THURSDAY at the choreographic showing (March 4th, 6PM, dance studio). Only interested choreographers need the choreographer packet!

The choreographic showing (March 4) is ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY unless you have already cleared it with me!

What happens Thursday March 4th?
  •  THE CHOREOGRAPHIC SHOWING! 6pm in the dance studio :-)
  • Turn in any choreographer, dancer, or release forms
  • Everyone will receive a piece of paper with the list of choreographers in order of the showing, the style of their dance, and their most likely rehearsal time, so BRING YOUR CLASS SCHEDULE!
  • Choreographers will be sharing their choreographic ideas along with about 30 seconds of choreography.
  • You will fill out this piece of paper, ranking the dances you would like to be considered for and how many you would like to be in.
  • If a piece you are interested in requires an audition, you will stay for the auditions at the end of the meeting. Please bring dance shoes and comfortable dance clothes!
  • Auditions have been implemented as of last year to give choreographers a chance to see who may or may not be in their dance before I cast everyone
CHOREOGRAPHERS, if you're still interested in choreographing, here's what you need to do before Thursday:
  1. Make sure you have emailed me
    • preferred rehearsal times
    • if you're auditioning
    • THE STYLE OF YOUR DANCE, I would like to get an idea of the variety we will have this year! Sorry I didn't ask for this before!
  2. If you would like an audition, be prepared to either:
    • teach about an 8 count of choreography
    • teach a specific move (breakdance, tap?)
    • direct a relevant across the floor
  3. Auditioning or not, please prepare about 30 seconds of choreography (preferably with music), and any choreographic ideas you have for your piece!
Once I know how many choreographers will be auditioning and their style, I can figure out how to split the auditions into groups.

Let me know if anyone has any questions about anything! Feel free to call or email me.

See you all Thursday! I'm excited to see some great choreography!
