Choreographic Showing

I know Thurs. sounds a little confusing. It's the first time auditioning for certain pieces has been done for the concert. I feel it is only fair to give choreographers a chance to see who may or may not be in their piece before I cast everyone.

Everyone, for Thurs (Mar. 5) please:

  • Wear comfortable clothes you can dance in
  • Bring shoes (jazz, ballet, tap--- if you plan on auditioning for these)
  • Bring Spring Quarter class schedule
  • Sign liability forms (if you haven't already)
  • Turn in detached portion of contracts to me
  • And please be open-minded! (this is the first time I've had this audition process...but I think it will work in everyone's favor)

This is how it will work:

  • Choreographers will share their choreography and choreographic ideas. (Bring filled out Choreography Proposals if you haven't turned them in already!)
  • Choreographers will let dancers know if they require a mini audition after all other choreographers have shown their sample choreography.
  • Dancers will rank the dances they want to be in (w/no guarantee of being cast in them)
  • After the showing, those choreographers that require a small audition will teach less than 2 eight counts of choreography to interested dancers and watch them dance. This may be choreography or it may just be technical skills (ie. # pirouettes, stylized movement, fouette turns, etc...) The studio will be divided into sections for this purpose. Choreographers will list the dancers they want in their piece (w/no guarantee yet). This will give them a fair skills assessment of dancers interested in their piece.
  • I will cast dancers in pieces dependent on availability, interests, and choreographers' input.
  • I will notify everyone when casting is complete.

Hopefully this clears a little of that confusion up...If you have more questions, please feel free to email me more or call me!
